A Powerful Debut
author: Bryan Jeppson
Tasteful guitar leads weave their way through a vibrant pattern of thick vintage organ tones carefully punctuated by a few power chords. Soaring background vocal lines provide the final element necessary to transform a well-written composition into an emotional powerhouse. All this happens during the extended outro of “More Than Friends,” and it’s just one of many highlights on Bobbie Townsend’s debut CD Liquid Emotion. From the hypnotically seductive pulse of “Slip Into Your Dreams” to the vibrant infectious country hooks of “Going for Broke” Townsend not only dares to venture into nearly every genre of modern music imaginable, she successfully cultivates seemingly divergent influences into an evocative seamless blend. Whether it’s a blistering Stevie Ray styled blues solo in the midst of the punk energy of “Why Are You So Afraid to Die” or the psychedelic guitar riff accenting the intro to “Strange Ending,” there’s no shortage of creative zeal on this CD, yet each composition stays firmly grounded with memorable hooks and catchy melodies. The end result is a supremely satisfying dose of originality.

Going for Broke is an excellent song with a lot of rhythm and energy -- perfect for kickin-up your heels during those fun occasions. This one could be on the charts someday!!!
