SmoothJazz.com Review

Bobbi Vandervort may be one of the most diverse artists we’ve come across... she is a singer/songwriter, author and visual artist. She also designs and sews clothing and creates home furnishings. Her music career includes three albums to date, one television theme and hundreds of radio and TV commercials and movie soundtracks. While living in San Francisco, Bobbi used to rehearse with Carlos Santana’s band and even did some impromptu vocal arranging on Van Morrison’s BEAUTIFUL VISION album. Apparently, never idle, Ms. Vandervort has several projects spinning at once and this truly high quality recording actually merges several of her mediums together. More than a dozen beautiful printed lyric cards fit cleverly into the CD case/easel and also feature artworks and passages that the artist says, “express my heart and soul.” Bobbi’s printed pieces are quite profound and make for great inspiration using Love, Compassion, Innocence, Appreciation, etc as her muses. This talented woman’s creative spirit is equally as vibrant in her music. Surrounded by some of L.A.’s finest musicians, Bobbi’s lush, warm voice is caressed by world-class talent. What impresses me, is the delicate, yet deep instrumentation and arrangements. This sophisticated approach allows comfortable room for Bobbi’s sweet voice and reflective lyrics to seep through and swirl around the tasty jazz with soulfully pop overtones. Songs like “Chameleon Cry,” “All These Gifts Art Given” and “Brotherhood of Man” are highly accessible to a wide demographic yet manage to be insightful and thoughtful. Welcome to the wonderfully layered and artful world of Bobbi Vandervort!
