notes
Bob Burger is a singer/songwriter with hundreds of hook-laden songs, as well as countless hours of live performance under his belt. He has written songs for recording artists Styx, Donnie Iris, Glen Burtnik, Bobby Bandiera and Joe Vadala, as well as for media conglomerates like HBO Pictures. Growing up in Erie, Pa., Bob quickly rose to the top of the local scene with such bands as The Pulse. With The Pulse, Bob enjoyed local radio success with his original song "You Want To Know Why" which was a top 10 hit on Erie radio. Later moving to the New York / New Jersey area, Bob formed a new band with brother Jeff called "Blonde Obsession" which became a regular fixture in New York clubs such as the Bitter End, CBGB's and the Cat Club. About this time, Bob began co-writing songs for Glen Burtnik's solo projects on A&M Records including the feature cut "Spinning My Wheels." After Burtnik joined Styx, Bob continued his collaboration in penning the title cut of the Styx "Edge of the Century" CD for which Bob earned a Gold Record award. Other Styx tunes included "It Takes Love to Make Love", "Little Suzie" (Styx Greatest Hits (Part 2)) and most recently "Killing The Thing That You Love" (Cyclorama). On the live performance side, Bob has been performing on the Jersey Shore with Bobby Bandiera (of Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes) for many years in both concert and club venues such as the Count Basie Theatre and Asbury Park's Stone Pony. As a member of the Bobby Bandiera band, Bob has played at several major fund-raising events sharing the stage with megastars Bruce Springsteen and Jon Bon Jovi. In late 2003, with seasoned performance and writing credits in tow, Bob is releasing his debut solo CD entitled Cymbals At Dawn to immediate local acclaim.
"At last the debut solo album from the Jersey Shore's best kept secret. Bob Burger's the guy other songwriters go to for help, and on 'Cymbals At Dawn' he lives up to his legendary reputation. This is a potent collection of songs from a rock-solid musician. This just might be my favorite album of the year."
- Glen Burtnik, Styx
"[Cymbals At Dawn] is one of those CD's I put in my CD player as soon as possible and haven't taken out yet!"
- Hugh McDonald, bassist Jon Bon Jovi

Really enjoyed Bob's original works on this CD, after hearing him perform live twice in 2005. Loved "Girl on the Side of the Road" and "Crowning Achievement"; great rendition of Cash's "Ring of Fire". Glad I ordered one CD for me and one for my husband. Now I need to order a few for friends not fortunate enough to live in the Garden State...although I think they will be hearing about this wherever they are...
Awesome, upbeat and catchy hooks
author: Tim McKeownWonderful voice and harmonies on a bed of ringing acoustic guitars, set within catchy pop tune structures. Think Beatles, Rembrandts, Petty, Wallflowers. Go Get It!!
Bob Burger,,,,Where are you hiding.....Please come out and play for us??? This C
author: Jayne Licata - Owner The Rmson Music StudioI have always been a fan of the magnificent Bob Burger when accompanying the extraordinary Bandiera....Bandiera is never as great without Berger by his side....We are lucky to have these two perfomers with us personally at The Jersey Shore. HOWEVER, the true talent of Mr. Burger shines in this CD. His unique vocal and sound and delivery in unparalled by any other artist today. A unique sound reminscent of Lennon, Petty and Costello...so good sometimes he is downright haunting...This CD is to be loved....Great Gift....and then bring your friend to a live show...they will love you for it !!!!!!

Great CD
author: KathyWow! What a great CD. I was a fan before, but after hearing this CD, I am an even bigger fan.
First rate!
author: Laura T Lynch of Kweevak.comThis is a first class CD. Bob writes insightful, visual lyrics often about the darker more difficult aspects of life but the music still has sprit and upbeat tones. Burger's production is crisp and clean and his arrangements are diverse and have plenty of catchy hooks. 'Madalynn' is the opening track that features fine guitar leads, interesting structural changes and textured subtle tones. 'Ring of Fire' starts off slow and reflective and progresses to a faster pace to the hook line intertwined with captivating instrumentation. The song has a lot of intricate sounds and speeds. Glen Burtnick states that "Cymbals at Dawn is a potent collection of songs from a rock-solid musician" and I agree 100% with Glen!
Awesome CD, put in and play, from begining to end
author: Jeff HWOW, blew my socks off. One great song after another. Reminds me of the "Rising", not lyrically or vocally, but a similar CD that you can just put in the cd player and not have to skip a song to get to a good one. Really liked Bob's version of crowning achievement. A must have CD.
Every song is so incredible I can't pick a favorite.
author: Rich "Nowhere Man" EisenbeisWith the possible exception of the Traveling Wilbury's Vol. 1, there has never been another CD where I LOVED every song from the very first time I heard it. This is a masterpiece which showcases Bob incredible song writing, musicianship and voice. I can't stop playing it.
The major's better pick up on this... it's too good!
author: Lee Mrowicki, DJ Stone PonyI'm proud to say that I discovered this talented singer/songwriter ... recognizing his enormous talent and ultimate cool. (oh yes, I remember when he didn't wear his glasses) I still have all the early demos (Robert Jaymes Burger) that he ever gave me, which had a bunch of hits on it as well; but, this is the catchiest collection of hooks I've heard from any contemporary artist. Bob has his finger on the pulse of today's music as well as a respect for the music of the past...and rolled into one, it's pure magic! The major's better pick up on this...it deserves to be in the mainstream... it's too good!
Real music played with care and enjoyment
author: JeanOoh, the interplay of those guitars…and all the ensemble playing…it's so great to hear people playing guitars with that care, that touch, real dynamics and what sounds like real enjoyment in playing. Bob Burger can really sing, too. And the songs are great: listen to the Vintage Tweed, Don't Count Me Out segue, or Deadly Serious; and with Ring of Fire he does that thing where it's done full justice, but sounds like a different song. Lovely record; if you care for real, not plastic imitation, music, it's a breath of fresh air.
awesome!!!
author: erinGood example of overall feel of music. Always better in person live but fun to sing along with. Love track #8!
Can't stop listening!
author: Mike ColicchioAbsolutely awesome stuff! I can't stop listening to it. Not a bad song on the entire album. Burger sounds like a cross between John Lennon and Tom Petty. Over the Edge and Deadly Serious are perfect cuts. Everything works...I haven't enjoyed a new release this much since MB20 More Than You Think You Are. This is a winner and Bob Burger should be on the map after this gem gets out. Buy it, listen to it and you will love it. Bob...thanks for the recording!
