Roots infused with soul and propelled by the gospel
author: Mike Roots
In the vein of classic singers like Dennis Brown and with a voice somewhat reminiscent of Everton Blender, relative newcomer Bobby Simpson has brought something formidable to the table for those hungry for good reggae music. Filled with conscious, encouraging messages of universal appeal and praises unto God Almighty, "Speak Life. Speak Christ" is an album packed with ten solid tracks in mostly a contemporary roots style, which draw from the strength of an uncompromising Christian faith. Strong melodies, crucial backing vocals and focused riddims provide ample support for Simpson, who is truly a singer's singer. "Speak Life. Speak Christ" is an album which is capable of taking the gospel to the streets and into communities where conscious reggae is sought. A further strength in the songs here are their ability to present the Christ-centered life as the practical solution to overcoming the wickedness, injustice and trials which are obstacles in this world. If there is perhaps a drawback, it is in the somewhat uneven production quality of the album, but trust me- this will not interfere with your ability to enjoy and be blessed by the music of Bobby Simpson. The more I listen, the more I begin to wonder if the "rawness" doesn't actually serve to convey a sense urgency along with it. Lyrically, biblically-rooted expressions of faith are interwoven with real-life observations and social commentary which serves to personalize the message. In my opinion, songs like "God Is On Your Side", "His Word Is The Sword", "I'm Gonna Pray" and "Wake Up" deserve inclusion on conscious reggae programmes everywhere- right alongside tracks by Everton Blender, Luciano and others. Listening to "Speak Life. Speak Christ" can only make you wonder what could be next for Bobby Simpson should things become more enhanced on the production end for his next project!

Urgency to speak...a must buy
author: Kia Sidbury
Wow!! I love this CD. Bobby knows how to esteem the brethern and sisters in Christ. I feel encouraged to know "God is on my/your side." In other instances of his music i'm reminded to speak the Word of God in all situations. I have the right to speak, believe and receive God's Word in my life; I have "Freedom" to do so. The world has got to hear what Jesus is singing through this brother. Speak life. Speak Christ.
