ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
“LIVE: In The Heart Of The Universe” is a CD/DVD featuring new songs written and performed by award winning singer/songwriter Bobby Belfry and his band the last several years in the New York club scene. The DVD is a filmed document of the live performance recording of Belfry’s second CD, enhanced with photo stills on several of the clips.

The set is flavored with an eclectic mix of Jazz, Caribbean, South American, folk and rock influenced music driven by the socio-political and metaphysical lyrics Belfry is becoming known for. The album’s overall message is of hope and transcendence told with humor, love, heartbreak and ultimately, forgiveness.

A mainstay at Feinstein’s, The Duplex, and Brandy's, Bobby has also performed at Lincoln Center, Town Hall, The Russian Tea Room, The Rainbow Room, Bitter End, China Club, CBGB’s, Smoke, The Fairmont Hotel in Dallas, The New Jersey Performing Arts Center, The Kennedy Center, and The Cinegrill in Hollywood.

Bobby has also appeared on national television on "The Morning Blend", a news/talk show on MSNBC, and is a frequent guest on WOR Radio's The Joey Reynolds Show, whose theme song, penned by Bobby, is played for an audience of 5 million listeners, nightly. Mr. Reynolds, a Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Deejay, has also written liner notes for the new record.

Bobby has been the recipient of the Back Stage Bistro Award for Outstanding Vocalist. His debut CD, “Imperfect Rhymes” and "So What", a cut off the album, were 2nd and 3rd place finalists for the Just Plain Folks Independent Music Awards, in a field of 10,000 submissions. He has also received the MAC Award for outstanding Pop/R&B Vocalist and several Critics Choice Vocalist Awards.

Filmmaker, Victor Mignatti (Broadway Damage, The Real World) has included Bobby in his documentary "This Time", which follows the careers of diverse artists in the music industry (including the legendary Sweet Inspirations) by weaving their music-filled stories, exploring the relationship between faith and persistence to longevity and the process of making music against all odds. The film is now in production and will be released in 2007.

True to Life
I watched this DVD and was impressed by Bobby Belfry\'s soulful delivery and emotive voice. Then I saw him live and I realized that Belfry resides in that wonderful world of \"what you see is what you get\". How refreshing to hear and see a true talent in acton.

A superstar in search of his niche.
Bobby's songwriting has grown and matured since his beautiful debut album, Imperfect Rhymes. On Live: In the Heart of the Universe, his soaring vocals instantly engage the listener to the poignant, clever and often humorous lyrics, as well as strong melodies spanning many genres. The immediacy of the live performance is captured on both the CD and DVD, showcasing a stellar band, complete with backing singers, wonderfully tuned in to the material.

Bobby's music is not easily pigeonholed. His Broadway and cabaret sensibilities mesh with a pleasing AOR-based sound, adding other varied influences as the songs demand, from Country to Carribean, Standards to Singalongs.

Live: In the Heart of the Universe is a strong collection of the best kind of story-songs by a singer/songwriter at the top of his craft, and performed by a talented band who are clearly enjoying the ride.

catchy melodies, infectious rhythms and contagious energy
I have long been a fan of Bobby's IMPERFECT RHYMES and have been eagerly awaiting the release of LIVE: IN THE HEART OF THE UNIVERSE for many months. Its catchy melodies, infectious rhythms and contagious energy never disappoint. This is a very personal collection of songs in an impressive spectrum of styles from a talented, winning performer.
