Album Notes

"PIECES OF BLUES" is Bob E. Lee's first recorded documentation of his interpretation of "the blues" as seen through his eyes. Bob E. Lee is a twenty-year veteran of the Chicago Southside blues scene. His guitar and blues-harp, give voice to the emotion of a life-lived in the shadow of the steel mills. Bob's powerful voice, along with his talent for story-telling, combined to create his own personal experience of the blues.

Bob leads the "Bob E. Lee Blues Band," a group of talented and diverse group of veteran blues musicians who perform regularly at blues clubs and festivals, etc... throughout Chicago, it's suburb; Joliet and Northwest Indiana.

Bob has opened shows for Chicago's own Lonnie Brook's and his well-established son Ronnie Baker Brooks. He has jammed with the likes of Chicago blues guitarist John Primer (of Willie Dixon/Muddy Waters bands), legendary drummer Vernon Rogers (of the late Junior Well's band), Mike Wheeler a.k.a. "The Chicago Playboys," and Vino Loudin to name a few popular Chicago blues musicians. He has also shared libations with the late great Hound Dog Taylor.

Bob began singing at an early age during the Elvis-era singing songs like "Hound Dog." Bob has been singing all of his life and sites the late great Ray Charles and Muddy Waters, Luther Allison as well as modern-day musicians like Johnny Winter, Lyle Lovette and David Bromberg as major influences.

Bob E. Lee's "Pieces of Blues" CD, is a "must-have" for any blues music enthusiast, who seeks good solid blues-based music that is seasoned with variety for the listener, it is also a snapshot of the future of where this music genre is headed.

BOB LEE/PIECES OF BLUES THIS RECORD IS THE LONG AWAITED FIRST CD FROM MY OLD FRIEND BOB LEE. I HAVE TO SAY I WAS PLEASANTLY SURPRISED BY THE DIVERSITY OF TUNES HERE , ALTHOUGH NOT SURPRISED AT ALL BY THE LEVEL OF MUSICIANSHIP. GUESS I'LL GIVE MY TWO CENTS WORTH TUNE BY TUNE AND HOPEFULLY INSPIRE OTHERS TO BUY IT, TOO... HORN THE MACHINE this is a little cajun rocker with the best line i've heard in a long time("living our life like a birthday cake"). it moves at a good clip and tells a story and all the instruments are doin' it like they oughta. lets ALL move to the swamp! DO YOU REALLY LOVE ME this one oughta be a classic . the lead guitar work is classic, the horn arrangements are classic and the rhythm work is so solid you just gotta hipshake everytime you hear it. Give it a year or two and it'll be in everyone's repertoire...and then you can say you heard it here first! GO ON I love this little cooker in the style of southside blues...the harmonica is great and the rest of the band is tight and having a good time, too. gee, i sure miss those late smoky nights on the southside.... DRINK IT UP this is a sweet, sexy, swaying with your best dance partner kinda song...the vocals are loose and just dark enough to inspire passion and the flute and lead guitar are cooking at a slow simmer all the way through...mmmm.... BLUES BY THE NUMBERS a solid sensation, featuring screaming guitar riffs and a hot sax. Its blues by the numbers, all right with all the elements that make you want to dance. GOTTA BE this one is wild and has elements of '80's poster art. the percussion and guitar are reminiscent of santana and the lyrics have a glam quality. the combination sounds weird, i know but it definitely works. wonder if there's a music video? MONEY AND SUPPLY a straightforward examination of that old conundrum of how to make the money fit the needs of all dreamers-with slide work that'll make you shake and holler. told in a series of vignettes about coming up short. i'd like to hear another verse or a bridge bringing it all together but its great the way it is and after all, its only rock n roll... AIN'T IT FUNNY a guitar driven piece of inspiring blues. a lesson for all to learn about how to keep yer place even when the going gets confusing. a way to get down and still stay confident enough to be swayed into someone's bad game. the guitar is steaming and fine and bob's vocals are strong and perfect for this outing. RAW DOGS a harmonica and slide dobro infused kicker, high energy and a great campfire song. i dare you to not sing a coupla yer own whoo hoos every time the chorus comes round ROOT LADY RUTH a departure from the rest of the record, the arrangement kinda like a great average white band thing and the lyrics letting you know that alternative healing is where its at. the young voices on this are a great way to get the message across while you dance away your troubles and pain LET IT RAIN i sure love this cut, not because its like nothing else on the record and i was surprised to hear it at all,but because its a great gospel inspired with a multi voiced chorus that just won't quit. Bob's voice is as fluid and clear as the water he's singing about and its inclusion lets us know there is more to look forward to from this artist. praise be. ORDER THIS ONE RIGHT NOW AND GET YOUR BLUES SERVED UP WITH A SIDE OF SOLID SOUND!
