notes
A native of Detroit, Michigan, Bob Gentry proved to be an incredible musician at a young age, learning to play both piano and guitar on his own and amassing a repertoire of over 50 songs by age seventeen.
In his teen years, Bob found some success with the all-original rock band Moisture. Touring the Detroit club scene, Moisture attracted a dedicated following and was nominated for Best Rock Band at the Motor City Music Awards. The group was also asked to perform at Chicago’s Independent Label Festival; the first track of the Festival’s compilation CD was Moisture’s.
"I was very introverted when I was young. I was writing songs for myself with meanings that I thought no one would get. But, people found the lyrics resonated with their own lives and it helped me to realize that we all share some common experiences. By the time I was playing with Moisture I thought I had to be loud and hard-edged—that getting it in your face was the only way to get people to listen, but eventually I realized that I didn’t need to do that."
After recreating Moisture with new members in Los Angeles, the band performed on the USA Network and Canada’s MUCH Music Network, and was immediately offered a recording contract by FarmClub, then a label under Interscope Records.
Now a solo artist, Bob writes and performs with Grammy winning artists including poet/singer/songwriter Rod McKuen, best known for songs such as "Seasons In the Sun," "If You Go Away," and the Oscar nominated "Jean," and David Tyson, writer of the hit "Black Velvet" performed by Alannah Myles.
His first self-titled, self-produced album has recently earned him a spot in the top 5 Male Singer Songwriter (2006) category from the JPF Awards while the first single from the album, "Upside Down," earned him the LA Music Award for Rock Singer Songwriter of the Year (2006). The single has also found its way to regular rotation on Adam Curry’s podcast and was voted as one of the top ten PodSafe songs by associated podcasters. Several of his other songs and original score work can be heard on various films and television programs including Fox's "Bones," and the upcoming film "Anderson's Cross" as well as on NBC's StarTomorrow music competition where he reached the Top 5 of 100 acts chosen to participate.
Bob is currently in the studio working on his next project. Tony DeFranco of the famous DeFranco Family and James Lee Stanley (known to many as the 5th Monkey) appear on the album singing back-up vocal tracks.
"As I have grown musically, I think I have found a middle ground. My lyrics often still have double and triple meanings but now they’re not such a puzzle. Nothing is made up, it’s all from life experiences, and I think people can hear that and really identify with the music because of it."
A prolific and dedicated writer and musician with over 500 songs in his repertoire, Bob continues to write new songs, perform, and produce albums for other artists. He currently resides in Hollywood, California.
Bob is endorsed by Yamaha and proudly plays and records exclusively with Yamaha instruments. For more information on Bob Gentry, check out BobGentry.com.

author: A Michigan FanThis CD is one of my favorites so far...a friend of mine stole my copy so I had to order another one! As always the music moves you and the lyrics are very thought provoking. I can't wait for the new CD to come out!
Awesome - stopped me in my tracks
author: RufusThis should come with the advisory notice "May have profound effects on the listener". Beautiful is the only word that comes close. Each song works on its own but together is when you are taken through an intensity of emotions that I've never heard before in such an authentic way. Some songs sneak up behind you and get you when you don't expect it, such as "But I Do". and "Upside Down". And thats the beauty. Simple yet perfect. Just wait till you see him live!
One of the Best CD's of this Era!!!
author: Josh StevensonThanks Bob for having the courage to sing all the songs that you did on this CD! Your voice is incredible, Your songs are inspirational, It's apparent that your songs are a reflection of life! May God bless you and I wish you much success. *Huggz*
Has range, tenderness and guts! BG is amazing!!
author: Robert CrutchfieldThis CD is now has a permanent slot in my car's CD changer! My favorite track is still "Still In Love." And who can't identify with "My Door." Just a great mix of original material. Gimmie MORE!
Finally a hunkie guy who can sing!
author: DeniseBob's music is without a doubt some of the finest I've heard in recent years. His lyrics are stories, unlike most lyrics that are created just for rhyming purposes. But what I like most is the music that he puts with the lyrics. I was introduced to this cute guy's music through a friend. I hope the pyramid introductions keep escalating. Maybe that will be an impetus for him to release a new CD. I've witnessed his maturation from "Bastard" to his latest solo CD and know there's a lot more in his soul to give. Now, back to gazing at that CD cover.
I've been a fan of Bob Gentry since his appearence on Farm Club...

Amazing!
author: DebbieThis CD is by far the most powerful one I own. From the intense lyrics to the stunning music. Song by song takes you on a journey that you never want to end. A must have in anyone’s collection.
His music is powerfull
author: RenayeWhen I listen to his CD, It lifts my spirits. He puts his heart and soul in it and you can hear it. When I listen to his CD, I cry,(in the good way). There is so much energy in his music and very powerful. I wonder myself why he's not a big star yet too?
Enigmatic Free spirit with the voice of omnipotence
author: KatherineWhen I first encountered Mr Gentry I thought, it isn't everyday that a unique voice breaks the barrier of a cookie cutter world. Impressive indeed. The heralds are constructing new syllabic combinations to announce this, as it is a serendipitous boon. I stand by this assessment. His music keeps you company when your bed is empty and you have the weight of the world on your shoulders.
Great Music!!!!!
author: JamesWhy isn't this guy a huge star? He has the LOOKS, the VOICE, the SONGS. Who could ask for anything more?
Powerful stuff!
author: JennI could listen to this whole CD over and over again. The singer has a provoking voice with powerful lyrics. I loved it!
His warmth comes through
author: Fran ShoemakerI was riding in a car with a friend and this CD came on. We stopped talking and I asked her who it was. She told me and I decided to look him up on the internet. Why is he so hard to find? This man is warm and wonderful. I didn't think today's young stars could still sing songs where the words could be understood. His words are not only understood they reach into your heart. The music just gets better with each song and each time it's played.
With each CD this sexy, talented, very nice young man just gets better and bette
author: Sonja KennedyThis CD is even better than the previous ones. With each song I thought, now that is my favorite, then the next and THAT song was it. Give it up...all of Bob's songs are my favorite. Each one tells a story of just how much talent Bob has. He can write and perform in every media of music, plays many instruments and all with above excellence aptitude! One of the nicest young men I have ever met. Umm, my favorite could be SALT WATER CLOUDS.
Ditto
author: Val RioloDitto....Vicki, BJ, Rita, Kevin and Larry. Everyone has already said what I think about Bob's music. I wish I could add something more but the only thing I can think of is... "Bob is the nicest guy I've ever had the pleasure of meeting." (I hope this will get me free tickets for "The Tonight Show" when the time comes.) :-)
What a voice! What a face! What GREAT songs!
author: VickiWhy isn't this very talented (and very, very cute guy) a major recording artist? Take note you ignorant A&R wimps. You will be so sorry if you let this one slip through your fingers. I can hardly wait to say..."I told you so."
Wow - what a talent
author: BJ ConneryThis guy has it all - the talent is obvious the first time you listen and if you get the chance to see him in person you will be in awe!!
This CD is quick becoming my most played
author: Rita SmithI have this in my car CD player because it always gives me a lift. That warm voice, the upbeat sound, the way each cut sets a different mood, just seems to be the pick me up I need at the end of a working day. I think there's appeal for all ages here and I'm considerably older than Bob Gentry but he rings my chimes. Good Luck, Bob. I saw Bob in conert with Rod McKuen and think he is loaded with talent.
Honestly, the best cd I have heard in a very long time
author: Kevin Pruett - SongwriterFrom the moment I put this cd in, I was instantly hooked by an unforgettable combination of lyrics and emotions. As I listened to the lyrics, I felt he had climbed into my soul while sleeping, capturing everything I have ever felt in my lifetime, and magically put it all on disc for everyone to hear. This Cd is a true example of pure songmanship, and an absolute delight to listen to! Give back my Heart Bob, I cant write without it!
THIS GUY IS GONNA BE HUGE!!!!!
author: Larry SullivanThe music is great, Bob is extremely talented! I highly recommend it!
