Bob Linsenmayer got his start as an entertainer in northern California using the name Bob Lindsay while in college in the late 1950s, performing folksongs and humor at Stanford and San Jose State student hangouts. He then began playing the same night clubs in San Francisco where the Kingston Trio, the Smothers Brothers, Phyllis Diller, Jim Nabors, Maya Angelou (she sang calypsos) and many others got their starts. When the Smothers Brothers went on tour, Bob would replace them at San Francisco’s Purple Onion. In 1964 Bob started up his own folk music club in Spokane and began touring in Canada.
When the folk music boom began to fade in the mid-60s, Bob went to work in the export business traveling the entire world for 30 years. He had many wild adventures abroad which form the core of his storytelling performances for adult audiences. In 1996 Bob and his wife Sheryl moved to South Carolina and he became the Singing Storyteller presenting storytelling/music programs at schools, libraries and festivals for children and adults. In addition to his songs and stories, he engages his audiences by playing the jaw-harp, spoons, nose flute, washboard and other off-beat folk instruments.
