“You Do Something To Me” was written by Cole Porter for the show “Fifty Million Frenchmen” in 1929. We think it is an appropriate title for this CD of music by The Boilermaker Jazz Band.

Especially for you, we’ve selected a mix of our favorite tunes inspired by some of the performers and composers we admisre most: Cole Porter, Duke Ellington, Ivie Anderson, Fats Waller, Billie Holiday, Isham Jones, Gus Kahn.

You’ll find musical tales of love (Me And You), and love lost (When Your Lover Has Gone), and love that never quite got started (Says My Heart) and songs that take you where only love can (East of the Sun- and West Of the Moon). Let the music transport you to Brazil, and across the ocean to Treasure Island, and after all that traveling is done… you’ll end up right Back In Your Own Back Yard.

We recorded a few tunes with our swing dancer friends in mind: “I’ve Got to Be a Rug Cutter”, Duke Ellington’s composition that never fails to get the feet flying, And “All God’s Chillun’ Got Rhythm” originally sung by Ivie Anderson in the Marx Brother’s movie “A Day at the Races” complete with an amazing performance by Whitey’s Lindy Hoppers.

Anyone who has seen the Boilermaker Jazz Band knows that we have a great time performing. Louis Armstrong and Fats Waller were two wonderful artists who never forgot to have fun when they were making their incredible music. Fats was the inspiration for “Dream Man”, and Louis’ 1935 recording inspired our rendition of “Thanks A Million”. As the song says... “You made a million dreams come true, and so I’m saying Thanks a Million to you!”
