notes

You can now download NAKED ON THE INSIDE and Bolen's sophomore album, LATE NIGHT CONFESSIONS, at iTunes.com.

"I listened to (HIDE), and then I listened again, and again. This is a great debut, lots of heart and super production. Pay attention to Sarah...." -Chris Frank, eFolkMusic.com

"This sounds like a woman I'd like to have a beer with." -The Spectator Weekly

NAKED ON THE INSIDE, released in May of 2001, is the first album by Bolen, who has been performing live ever since she was 15 years old. NAKED ON THE INSIDE displays the delicately soulful side of Bolen's emotional spectrum. Songs like "Hide" and "Play Along" use layers of harmony to highlight the disappointment, frustration, sadness and underlying hope that curse through the veins of this album.

Bolen has toured the east coast extensively, sharing the stage with the likes of Alix Olson, Kris Delmhorst, Pamela Means, the Butchies, Edie Carey, and Chris Pureka. Her second album, LATE NIGHT CONFESSIONS, has been garnering critical acclaim since its 2002 release. Says Jennifer Layton of Indie-Musician.com, "Fans of Pamela Means and Ani DiFranco should buy Sarah's new CD right now, put it on the stereo, and brace themselves."

Sarah Bolen is one of the most talented new indie artists on the music scene. Amazing soulfull album that you can't help but sing along to. A great find.

  • Amazing
    author: Angela

I heard these songs live and had to buy the album. I'm so glad I did. The songs themselves are great, but this recording is truly amazing.

  • awesome
    author: Jesse

Amazing. Aptly described "siren-like acoustic harmony", this CD reminded me of some of the Indigo Girls earlier albums. "Play Along" is one of the best songs I've ever heard. The production is dead on with the lyrics, something any musician can appreciate. I haven't heard the new album yet, but if it's half as good as this one, I'll buy it.

  • Loved every minute...
    author: Kate M.

I bought this CD on a whim and I'm damn glad I did. One can't help but empathize with Bolen's music. I think what I like most is her ability to be complex and yet subtle. "What would you do if you loved someone, who loved someone other than you?", she asks in Play Along. I'm not sure, but then, neither is she. Bolen doesn't pretend to have the answers. Her music is incredibly real, as if she's singing a conversation she could easily be having with her best friend. Buy this CD. You have no idea what you're missing.

  • Perfect for a rainy day
    author: Darren Hood

I fell in love with this CD immediately. It's perfect rainy day, post break-up or long road trip music. The harmonies she pulls off in songs like Play Along, Hide, Holding My Breath, etc. are reminiscent of the Indigo Girls. Highly Recommended...

  • Just a fan...

This cd was the first one in a long time that I had to argue with myself over whether it was staying in my stereo or in my car cd player. Eventually I had to make a copy so I could listen to it in both places. Trust me, great things are going to come from a woman who can sing like this. Intense, funny, honest, and constantly sharp witted, this girl is going places!
