BOLORMAA JUGDERSUREN (Soprano)
She is the first person from Mongolia who educated at The Peabody Institute of The Johns Hopkins University, where she earned her Graduate Performance Diploma in opera. Ms. Jugdersuren earned her Bachelor of Arts and Master of Music degrees from Mongolian University of Art and Culture with full scholarship. She has been a singer at the Mongolian Opera House and appeared successfully in several operas. After receiving her Master Degree, she was the first young artist who was invited to be a full-time Assistant Professor of Voice at the School of Music of the Mongolian University of Art and Culture and later on she was appointed as an Associate Professor. Throughout her career, Ms. Jugdersuren has been the winner of many awards and competitions on the national level, both in Mongolia and in the United States. These include being the recipient of a full scholarship from Mountview Academy for Theatre of Arts in London, UK; full scholarship from the “Master Works Festival” in Indiana, USA, a nationally renowned scholarship, which “accepts only the most highly qualified and talented candidates” that gave her the opportunity to perform the role of the Forewoman in the opera “Louise” by Marc-Antoine Charpentier, the partial role of Lisa from “Pique Dame” by Tchaikovsky.; a Distinguished Alumni Award from Mongolian University of Art and Culture; Distinguished Young Female Singer Nomination from Mongolian Music Society, also prize winner of the main role named Horolmaa from the well-known Mongolian opera “Three Sorrowful Minds” by B. Damdinsuren, International Professional Singers’ Competition in the name of Prof. Purevdorj Tsevegjav and the Professional Singers’ Competition honor of famous Sharav Byambasuren who is a composer of Yo-Yo-Ma’s Silk Road Group. Ms. Jugdersuren was invited by the Contemporary Record Society to participate in a CD compilation “including gifted artists and selected composers’ works from among the exceptional participants of the CRS Competition”, and she was also invited to perform at the Bel Cantanti Opera Company in Washington, D.C performance of Lucia di Lammermoor. Ms. Jugdersuren’s performing career and achievements in her field of expertise have been widely recognized and documented. The Music Studio of Ulaanbaatar Television (UBS TV) filmed two performances and interviews with Ms. Jugdersuren and the documentary was filmed at the “Five Tune” studio of the Mongolian National Broadcast in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. Her “A Night at the Opera”, a television recording of her thirty minutes recital at the Music Studio of the Arlington County television station channel number 70 aired several times in the United States. In the realm of print media, Ms. Jugdersuren’s “scientific articles in both music theory and performing arts were published in the scientific collection “Mongolian Art and Culture Studies” by the Research Institute of Arts and Culture of the University in 1999”. Many articles and interviews have been published about Ms. Jugdersuren’s career in Mongolian and United States’, especially, newspapers such as The Washington Post, City Paper, Potomac Almanac, Today, Ulaanbaatar Post, and Ulaanbaatar Times. Bolormaa has been performed the role of the mother in “Hansel and Gretel” by Engelbert Humperdinck at the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University, and she has given numerous solo recitals at An Die Music, Baltimore Maryland, “Old Town Theater” Alexandria, Virginia, Shepherdstown and Martinsburg, West Virginia, Friedberg Concert Hall, Griswold Hall, Goodwin Hall, and Family Theater at the Peabody Institute of Music, Baltimore, Maryland, Strathmore Hall Arts Center, Bethesda, Maryland, Music Building-Concert Hall at Montgomery College, MD, “Music at Foundry” Concert, Foundry United Methodist Church, Washington, DC, “Merrie Christmas Mount Vernon” Concert, Mount Vernon Church, Baltimore, MD, Rosslyn Spectrum, Arlington, VA, and number of concerts with Largely Ludwig Chamber Ensemble, Baltimore, MD. She is a voice teacher at the International School of Music, and teaches Opera History and Voice at the Adult Education Center in Arlington County, VA.
