Did you know there was an Iron Maiden – before Iron Maiden?
The trio now re-named "1970-1976 The Bolton Iron Maiden"
No - They are NOT a tribute band!
This CD is released to raise money for Cancer Research and Macmillian Nurses.
Iron Maiden from Bolton was formed in 1970 by three friends. They had their own fan base a large following and played their own brand of rock music. Sadly in 1976, guitarist Ian Boulton-Smith (known to his fans and friends as "Beak") died from testicular cancer before any material was released on record.
Now 30 years later drummer and lead vocalist Paul O’Neill has found and restored the 4 studio recordings and 7 original songs that were recorded live on a tiny cassette recorder, and created the dream they always wanted - an album called Maiden Flight.
The remaining band members are selling the CD via their new website ( www.theboltonironmaiden.com ) and CD BABY to raise money, first job - to buy a bench for Christies Hospital in Manchester, something Ian’s Mum and Dad wanted to do, but never managed it. The bench is now installed - beatifully carved with the notes of Crawl Crawl Night Time, and has pride of place in the hospital garden, they also raised money for Cancer Research and Macmillan Nurses –Cancer Relief, and presented a cheque to the charities on the 23rd of June 2006 – the 30th anniversary of Ian’s death, when unbelievably - We played again for the first time in over 32 years raised over £3.5K on the night
The CD is to celebrate the life of Beak, our guitarist – It’s all about him and his wonderful style of writing and playing. Remember....we were a three piece,– and Beak had to cover everything –from guitar backing and melody and rip roaring solo’s.
Today the mighty name of Iron Maiden lives on in possibly the world’s greatest Metal band. Rod Smallwood of Sanctuary and Iron Maiden themselves have given their blessing to the CD, provided we call ourselves “1970 -– 1976 The Bolton Iron Maiden”, which we are happy to do.
One very big thing for us is that, true to their word, Iron Maiden put the CD on their website in the ‘“’News’ Section”. We had over 57000 hits on our site just from Maiden fans alone! See the news section on the 13 December 2005 at www.ironmaiden.com
and the Iron Maiden Commentary at hhtp://www.maidenfans.com/imc/?url=tbim&lang=eng&link=features
Can you please help us to raise money by spending some of your hard earned cash with The Bolton Iron Maiden-probably the best kept secret in rock

Sure it's for a good cause and all, but this CD really delivers!

Even fans of the later Iron Maiden won't be disappointed here. The weakest cut on it is still pretty good, with well over half of it being VERY good. If I had to pidgeon-hole their sound, I'd say it is progressive influenced hard rock, but it really is much more than that and well worth investigating - you won't be sorry!
