the Bon Mots "le main drag" The Bon Mots' record, "le main drag," reflects an admittedly quixotic desire to hear the kind of music which they wish was still being made by someone-or for that matter-anyone. But since it wasn't, as they say in other regions: "Voila." Formed this millennium by co-writers Mike Coy (formerly of Big Angry Fish and Cooksie) and Eric Chial (formerly of Mitch, Feedbag, The Eric Chial 2 (duh) and Cats and Jammers), the initial idea was to create a sound along the lines of the Zombies, the Byrds, and second-generation purveyors of cool (we think it's cool, anyway) mid-sixties-informed creepy jangle such as My Drug Hell, the Clean, the Bats, Brian Jonestown Massacre, the Church, etc. (Of course, nothing goes as planned, however, so please disregard the above-mentioned reference points and just take a listen to the record). Mike and Eric recruited Kevin Hoetger (formerly Big Angry Fish, Woolworthy, Cats and Jammers) to play drums and sing happening backing vocals. Kevin brought in multi-instrumentalist and mentalist Chris Frantizak (who used to be in a band called Emil Muzz and presently provides his talents to the mighty Light FM-and while we're shamelessly dropping name, after name, after name, ad nauseum, it should be noted that Chris recently did a couple gigs with a gentleman, rather spooky in his own right, named Nash Kato, who used to be in a band that used to hang out at The Rainbo a lot). After recording "le main drag" with maestro Neal Ostrovsky, who despite being a very good drummer (for the Webb Brothers) has remarkably excellent ears, at his B-Side Audio recording complex, Kevin Hoetger decided he was moving to Austin, Texas, in August, because it's hot as hell there. Thus, the Bon Mots called upon the ever-groovy and jazz-inflected Jason Styx (formerly, too many to mention, except that Eric and Jason met during a time in their lives which can only be described as Edenic, when they were both living in Athens, Georgia; but suffice it to say Jason is presently drumming for the Wes Hollywood Show; and-while entirely irrelevant for these purposes-was in his day a top-notch alpinist, who once assaulted K-2, though he was ultimately acquitted). If you read the lyrics in the booklet that comes with the record, you may see why we call this band The Bon Mots.
