BONNIE is a 3-piece band from Montevideo, Uruguay, featuring Sofi Garcia (Lead Vocals), Lucho Garcia (Bass), and Jeronimo Gonzalas (Guitar).  BONNIE, their full-length debut album, was released in August of 2011 and brings a new, fresh, clean sound to the Pop/Rock music scene.

Good albums mix it up and BONNIE does that brilliantly. Right off the bat, the album opens with “Run and Go” and Sofi Garcia’s expressive and sexy Latin vocals; but soon transitions into a more up tempo beat with “1, 2, 3” and some electronics thrown in for good measure. Moving on, Sofi shows her vocal prowess with “Magic Dancer” as she lays down some deliciously quick-paced lyrics to a complete brass section keeping tempo to a Latin beat and then, everything slows down a bit with Jeronomo’s acoustic guitar seducing Sofi’s sensuously expressive and heart-felt pleas in “If Some Day You Forget Me”.

“More Than Ever” continues with Sofi reminiscing about a special relationship and it’s signature is an infectious chorus that will stay with you well after the song ends. “Stop Freaking Myself Out” picks up the beat with an awesome; but clean distorted guitar sound that is the perfect introduction to “Count On Me” with it’s electronic, high energy dance vibe.
Slowing it down again, “Lately” is an exemplary ballad showcasing Sofi’s romantic, steamy, and sultry vocals and harmonies.

Time to snap out of my dream world and pick it up again with “Friday Night”. This song has great energy, sassy vocals, and a nice balance of instrumentation…it’s all good!

“A True Story” caps off this wonderful album with an amazing string section perfectly in tune with the bold and boisterous guitar that Jeronimo lays down. It’s a perfect and dramatic ending to this vibrant, dynamic, and enthusiastic album.

BONNIE’s music is unique and in a strange way, it takes me back a couple decades as I hear similarities to one of the greatest bands of all time, ABBA. Maybe it’s not so much of a coincidence…after all, they both use all CAPs in the spelling of their names. Coming from Uruguay, one would expect to hear more of a Latin influence, like Gloria Estefan’s music; but that’s not the case. Instead, there is a good foundation of Rock and Roll here, blending solid elements from the 70’s and 80’s and when Sofi sings certain words in her sensuous Latin accent…that’s when she captures my ear and stimulates my musical craving.

Uruguay is lucky to have this amazing group and I am looking forward to buying more albums by them.
