ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Bonnie Barbey has a very colorful range of experience in life, from being a park ranger to teacher to working in deliverance and inner healing ministry. She has always been fascinated with written words, whether in creative stories, poetry, or lyrics. Bonnie began writing music in about 1989 and is still telling people she wants to be a song writer when she grows up. When asked, “Why do you write songs?” her answer is, “I can't seem to help it! There is just constantly music going inside of me, and I always seem be writing lyrics in my mind. I love to worship, and I know I am in a healthier place spiritually when each time I awaken at night, I have a worship song in my spirit. Some of my music, I just wrote down from what I heard in a dream, so I consider them heavenly worship. I believe that I have an intense desire to glorify God, encourage others, and take a look at the real world through spiritual eyes. I hear God’s voice the best with a pen in my hand, so most of the lyrics I write are what I believe God is communicating to me or through me. Many of my songs I term "blood and guts" songs, because they express real pain and struggle, doubt and fear, and mesh nicely with a minor key melody. The lyrics often express what I am experiencing at that moment or season in my life. They tend to be very much like the Psalms though, beginning with a primal scream, but coming to a place of peace and faith by the end. I can't have people slitting their wrists after listening to my music, now can I? These are meant to me songs of healing and encouragement, even when dealing with painful or difficult topics."

Bonnie has been married to her husband, Todd, for 31 years and they live on a horse ranch in Durango, Colorado. They have two adult sons who are out on their own, 15 horses, three dogs, three cats, and numerous fish.
"A Mother's Prayer" was written for my son, Daniel, and his bride, Amy. I wanted to write a love song for the wedding or reception. This is what came to me very strongly, so quickly that the original lyric was written on the back of a snorkel box on a boat at Lake Powell. Daniel and Amy have the original writing in their wedding album. Kay Crawford was given the lyrics and she wrote this lovely melody. It was sung by Sara Hageman at the wedding and also in the contemporary Christian versions. The country versions were sung by Melissa Duvall of Nashville, TN. It was recorded at Denny Martin Music, Nashville, TN.
