Album Notes

World-class Scottish Fiddler, Bonnie Rideout, presents the works of her mentors. The majority of the music on this CD has never been recorded. It includes several of Bonnie's own compositions as well as the works of Ron Gonnella, Bert Murray, Arthur Scott Robertson and the great (Scottish Paganini), J. Scott Skinner. This historic recording features Rideout's ensemble, "The Bonnie Rideout Scottish Trio", with stellar guitarist, Bryan Aspey and Riverdance's percussionist, Steve Holloway.

BIO:
Bonnie Rideout is the only American to hold the honor of representing Scottish fiddle music at the prestigious Edinburgh International Festival. She is the first woman to hold the National Scottish fiddle title and the youngest to have garnered the US championship; defending it for three consecutive years. Ms. Rideout's winnings in major fiddle contests in both Scotland and the US concluded in the early 1990's in order for her to become an adjudicator and professional recording artist. In addition to maintaining her consistently high profile on stage, Bonnie continues to judge competitions and teach workshops at universities and established music camps throughout the US and Great Britain.

Bonnie holds degrees in both music and art from the University of Michigan. She is a dedicated mother of three and lives with her husband and children near Charlottesville, Virginia and in Maine during the "off-season".

Reviews:

"Rideout clearly feels a spiritual connection with this music...displaying at times a rare combination of urgency and clarity." The Washington Post

"Rideout's tone is pristine." The New York Times

"...dazzling fiddle playing from an authority in her genre..." Billboard Magazine

Last number, the Pibroch, is especially moving. She goes for musicality, rather than flash.
