Album Notes

2008 promises to be an exciting year for Boo Boo Cousins. He’s on the verge of releasing a new CD entitled ‘WET HEAT’, performing a string of shows with a group of great musicians and diving head first into a pond of new multimedia ideas which include music production & collaboration with other artists, an instrumental catalog available for licensing, and a collection of new websites and video presentations. Mr. Cousins was introduced on the music scene in late 2002 with the eclectic Cd ‘LAID BACK COOL’. This Cd was followed by ‘DIRECT SUNLIGHT’, a synthesis of electric acoustic rock & soul. And now in 2008 the masterpiece will be released. ‘WET HEAT’ combines true style with modern day imagery. Combining hip hop, rock, soul and great storytelling, this album brings enjoyment to listening to albums again.
The first single release is a song entitled ‘Girl’. This song has been described as an electro funk work out. Moving in the direction of Kanye West, Prince and 80’s synthesizers, this song takes off on it’s own with that memorable chorus hook talking about no other than a girl. Song titles on this disc worth your money are Room Or A Bed, I Need You, Is This Something, Do You Have A Minute, We Go All Out For Our People, And Then There Is You, Aim Your Weapon and much more.
Songs from this album contain a heavy element of both rock and hip hop. It’s almost as if The Rolling Stones and Goodie Mob happened to be in the same recording studio sharing ideas.
Mr. Cousins, a multi-instrumentalist, plays most of the instruments himself on the album and does not sample a lick. Special guests include guitarist Khalid Harvey on the songs ‘And Then There Is You’ & ‘Room Or A Bed’. Khalid Harvey adds impressive lead guitar runs melodically up and down the guitar fret board. Chicago born female rapper/singer Nemiss also performs on this album. She holds her own on the songs ‘Do You Have A Minute?’, the boy meets girl song groove of the year and ‘Love & Deception’, a tricky love triangle mixed with visuals of secrets and lies. Noted author, poet and spoken word artist DuEwa makes a very strong music recording debut on the song of so much soul ‘And Then There Is You’ adding a serene vocal rap that is sure to please. A longtime collaborator with Boo Boo Cousins, she shines. This album which was recorded over a 3 month period of time deals with subject matters ranging from boy meets girl motifs, our time in life, soldiers in war and intimate relationships.
In the past Mr. Cousins has had the opportunity to play at venues such as Joe’s Pub, S.O.B’s, The Nuyorican Poetry Café, Bowery Poetry Club, City Tech College, Marymount College, The Schomberg Museum, The Remote Lounge, Crash Mansion, CBGB’s Gallery, Pace University, October Gallery, Upsouth International Book Festival, The Five Spot, The Chocolate Monkey, Solomon’s Porch & Sputnik.
He has already begun performing shows in support of the new ‘WET HEAT’ CD in his hometown of New York City. His band consists of Khalid Harvey on guitar, Al Nortey on drums, K’urlii Eytina on bass, Malika on violin and vocals and himself on lead vocals, guitar and keyboards/synths.
