Album Notes

I highly recommend this album from French group, The Bopp.
It's as though you've stepped into a time machine back to the mid 60's and turned on the radio as you're driving with the top down on some sunny day... Authentic 60's sound all the way down to the production of the album.
Drums recorded to give that 'roomy' sound of a band in a garage feverishly rehearsing with the hopes of hitting it big some day.
The songwriting is solid, and my personal favs are "Paisley Underground", "Over And Down", and "Think Twice". Although this is one CD that you can listen to without a skipping a track.
This gets the Power Population "gold star" rating!

Excellently delivered entirely in English, 'Paisley Underground' by French Collective 'The Bopp' successfully morphs reference influences from the likes of R.E.M., Tom Petty and The Byrds without plagiarising any of them. Melodic, well crafted songs produced with a retro feel of lively drums and jangling guitars, conjures images of driving 'top down' the long straight roads of the Californian or Mediterranean coast. 'Good Times' music!

Parece que el 2011 está resultando un buen año para el pop europeo. He aquí un disco que está destinado a encabezar mi lista de este año. Esta formación francesa se estrena con esta colección de estupendas canciones que folk-rock y jangle-pop de excelente factura cuyas melodías me han seducido totalmente.

Il faut parfois savoir remercier le hasard. Celui qui fait passer outre une
pochette quelconque, et s’attarder sur un contenu musical. Lequel s’avère, au
final, d’une beauté saisissante. Surprise donc, venue des locaux The Bopp, classes
et inspirés, qui alignent en neuf titres, autant de perles psyche 60’s pop.
À noter que The Rest of Alfredo Garcia (notre Joe Meek à nous) est à la production.
Peut être même aura-t-il soufflé quelques idées d’arrangements? En
tous les cas, les fans de Grandaddy, des merveilleux californiens Sneetches, ou
de The Three O’Clock - déjà instigateurs dans les 80’s d'un premier revival psyche
pop et dont le terme « Paisley Underground » fait directement référence
