Album Notes

With their fourth CD, Border Radio pushes their signature eclectic acoustic sound even further. "Misery Mile" and "Thirteenth Floor" take us to the dark dissatisfied corners of the golden state. "Queen of the Rodeo Bull Rider Pen" is a gut-wrenching waltz about longing and death. "Golden State," a moving duet with bluegrass great Peter Rowan, follows a dustbowl couple fleeing Oklahoma (Kelly's home state) for "someplace new." "Lucky Roll," on the other hand, puts a sunny, contagious spin on love in a convenience store. They are accompanied on this new album by a group of talented musicians. Don Heffington (Victoria Williams) is on drums, Rick Shea (Dave Alvin) performs a duet ("Lucky Roll") with Kelly and plays pedal steel and guitar. Featured also are David Jackson on piano, Fred Sokolow on banjo, and Luke Halpin on mandolin. The CD was recorded in SuperAudio with beautiful results.
