Review from online music zine The-Original-Sin.com : Bandits of the Acoustic Revolution - A Call to Arms Self-Released - 2002 This CD is simply wonderful.
That is the only way I can describe it.
BOTAR is a band made up of musicians playing only acoustic instruments, or for our slower viewers, instruments that do not use electricity to produce a sound.
Such instruments in use by the BOTAR include a full string section (violin, viola, cello, acoustic bass), brasses and woodwinds (alto/bari sax, trumpet, trombone, and french horn), and piano, drums, acoustic guitar, and of course, vocals.
Basically what you are looking at is one pretty rockin (and small) orchestra.
BOTAR play a definite jumbled juxtaposition of music, where the listener will hear remnants of jazz, ska, classical, punk, rock n' roll, and more, all mixed into an awesome style that can only be called "classical-punk".
Or maybe "acoustic-awesomeness".
Call BOTAR whatever you like, because after your first listen to this cd, you will never be able to put it down.
All 5 tracks are standouts, their "manifesto" is both well written and truthful, and their cd packaging (handmade) is incredible.

It's an EP. It's short. It is one of the most interesting things I've ever listened to. Try to get your hands on it. You will not be disappointed. And this review is coming from a lifelong .. "One Cool Guy" fan

This CD kicks ass. Acoustic punk ska stuff. Yeah.

Something new... I like it. I love punk and ska, and I have a great appreciation for acoustic music. I've made acoustic versions of punk songs before, but this is a million times better.

An incredible blend of various styles and instruments to produce a sound like none other. Saying that it mixes SKA and acoustic, punk and rock just does not say enough. It has been in my player since I first got it, but I just cannot bring myself to take it out. The songs are so unique and incomparable to anything else out there, they just do not get old or tired no matter how many times I hear them. Top flight song-writing and musicianship…as tight a sounds as it gets. For goodness sakes man, just buy the CD right now!!!

The cd is amazing...

This is one of my favorite cds and it's only 18 minutes long. There were only 200ish printed, so if you can get your hands on it, please do. It is amazing. Tomas Kalnoky is a genius. If you're a fan of Keasbey Nights era Catch 22 or Streetlight Manifesto you'll love this.
Oh, and a full-length is eventually on it's way. Right now Tomas is doing a short tour with Streetlight Manifesto. They're looking to re release this with some other tracks on it I think. Eventually they'll have a full length, but it seems their time scales are very off. People in this band have never met each other. A couple of the guys live in Europe. BOTAR is all DIY so it's going to be hard for them to pull off, but they will...
