Album Notes

Trimalchio started out with the following email:

"From: Dave
Subject: Concept album
Date: January 27, 10:17:55 AM EST
To: John, Mike

So last night as I was swimming laps
(VERY dull) a concept album I think
we could pull off came to me:

Let's find a book around 10 chapters
long and summarize each chapter into
a song. We'll name the album after the
book, and the tunes can just be
'Chapter 1', 'Chapter 2', etc..."

Within the week we picked the book - 'The Great Gatsby' by F. Scott Fitzgerald - and by the end of the following month all nine tunes had been written with a demo of each recorded. The next 18 months were used to polish the tunes and figure out the intricacies of producing and releasing a CD.

And here it is - 'Trimalchio', a concept album that combines rock, jazz, classical and techno. bottleblue weaves the tragic story through thought provoking lyrics and sophisticated yet catchy musical arrangements.

Band History:
bottleblue had its beginnings back in 1983 (yeah, we think that’s a long time ago too!). That’s when Mike & Dave first met. Mike was already an accomplished pianist, Dave was just learning to play guitar.

Mike met John in ‘84. Dave met John in ‘85. We all hit it off and started recording original tunes together in ‘86. We had a watershed event around one tune (“A Satisfied Wimp”) that solidified us into a “band”. Before the year was out, we had recorded an album’s worth of original material. We’ve been writing & recording ever since.

PR has never been our strong-suit, so unless you happened to be listening to 'Home Tapes' on 98 Rock, heard us on a benefit CD for underprivileged children, or attended one particular open mic night at the '8x10', you wouldn’t have known we existed. So, Trimalchio is really our debut album. Sure, it’s coming out 20+ years after our shared history began - but better late than never! Hopefully you’ll find it worth the wait. (And we'll make sure the next CD doesn't take that long to come out!)

bottleblue is:
David Graham - vocals, guitars & assorted nicknacks
Michael Lukaszczyk - almost anything with keys
John Harkins - guitars
