THE UPDATE:
Though the original purpose of this compilation appears to have been satisfied--the cat lives--we have more pets to attempt to rescue, whether to save them from animal diseases or simply to find them good homes. Please buy a cd. 90% of profits go to helping pets and their owners in need.
THE ALBUM:
Benefit for Bowie is a compilation of deep underground Chicago artists who support the lives of people with pets. The album ranges in styles from soulful house to math-core to progressive metal to plaintive gospel. These unsigned artists contribute to the thriving underground Chicago music scene, helping to keep alive the city's legacy of an innovative music community. Because they believe in the work of the Pet-Owner Rescue Foundation of Chicago, they have donated their tracks so that we can better support pet owners.
THE PURPOSE:
Proceeds from the sale of Benefit for Bowie go to saving the life of a cat named Bowie. Bowie is a very ill cat. He suffers from Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease (FLUTD) and pyelonephritis, a cat disease that is fatal if not treated quickly. His treatment is very expensive, more than most people spend on themselves for healthcare. His owner cannot afford to pay for doctor visits and medication, and now it looks as though the only thing that can save him is a costly surgical procedure. Poor Bowie's owner cannot afford the surgery, and is afraid she will have to put him down. This is where the Pet-Owner Rescue Foundation of Chicago comes in. Here at the Pet-Owner Rescue Foundation, we strive to help pet owners do all they can to keep their pets. In this case, that means helping Bowie's owner raise the funds to pay for his life-saving surgery. To do this, we are releasing this Benefit for Bowie.
THE MUSIC:
The music on this album is a microsection of Chicago's music scene. The artists presented here vary greatly in style and approach, but all are enthusiastic about music. Furthermore, they all believe in the cause of the Pet-Owner Rescue Foundation of Chicago. None of these are David Bowie songs, nor do they sound like David Bowie. In fact, if you are a keen David Bowie fan, you probably won't like this music. However, you might be willing to give it a listen. We think you should.
THE ORGANIZATION:
The Pet-Owner Rescue Foundation of Chicago is a loose-knit not-for-profit organization of artists united in a common cause: to help pet owners keep their pets. We believe that people need companionship in their lives, and that for many people the best form of companionship is a pet. The Pet-Owner Rescue Foundation of Chicago tries to connect people and pets, and keep them connected for as long as possible. Our mission includes aiding in pet travel, pet daycare, pet healthcare, and even posthumous pet maintenance. We believe that a person and her pet should never be separated, and we do all we can to assure they are not.
YOU:
However, the Pet-Owner Rescue Foundation of Chicago cannot serve its purpose without contributions from people like you. Proceeds from the sale of this CD go to help pet owners raise, protect, and care for their pets in life and in death. We cannot perform our mission without your support, so please, buy a CD. We are confident you will find something you like.
Thank you for saving this cat.

One word....Outstanding
author: Brian H
this album beatifully shows the rich underside of the chicago subculture. In an industry rule by bubblegum pop, these artists stand up in one unified voice and say "NAY!" This is a raw and truthful depiction of what music can be if you let go of your outer inhibitions and feel the underlying sensation.
