Album Notes

The band started in the Fox Valley of Wisconsin but very quickly grew to be well known throughout the music hot spots in the Midwest. Boxkar has played shows with bands like Ingram Hill, Cowboy Mouth, Third Eye Blind, Everclear, Josh Kelly, Three Doors Down, Hillary Duff, Fuel, Ryan Cabrera, Great White and recently at the Viper Room with Kevin Martin from Candlebox and Green Leaf Avenue. In the summer of 2003, they opened for the BoDeans, putting on a show that drew nearly 9,000 people. In January of 2005, they were the only unsigned band to perform at the Presidential Inauguration in Washington DC. Most recently, they have a full page spread in the 2006 March issue of the well known Classic Rock Magazine out of London. This has helped to gain a strong following in Europe and are looking to play over seas soon. They have received incredible support from radio stations around the U.S. such as WIXX(CHR, 100k watts), calling their songs "Potential hit after hit" and WAPL(CHR, 100k watts), calling their performance "The total rock and roll live show!" They also drew attention from industry cats such as Bob Destocki, once the Promotions Director for Warner Bros. and a former A & R Director for Elektra/Asylum. He stated that Boxkar has everything needed to be a player in today's music market. Monty Powell, a CMA award winning producer and writer of seven #1 songs selling over 35 million units, calls the songs infectious and boasts that Chris Szebeni(front man) is a superstar in the making. The bottom line is that given the right opportunity, Boxkar will succeed on a national level.
The newest CD called "Comin' Out Swingin'" is yet another step up for Boxkar. The entire process of producing this CD took over a year, to make sure that the best versions of the best songs ended up on this album. Each track has it's own unique hook to it, while still keeping the melodic, sing along style that was present in the past. Boxkar has had several member changes in the past, but now has a strong line-up consisting of Chris Szebeni on vocals, Bryan Bremer on guitar, Joey Carini on lead guitar, Matt Hammen on bass and Dave Schoepke on drums.

Box of tricks. A cult favourite in the Classic Rock office, Boxkar’s latest album might just be the one to get them the major label attention they deserve. Tougher, more dynamic and forceful than the Wisconsin band’s previous outings, Comin’ Out Swingin’ is full of top-quality, hard-edged pop rock. Chris Szebini has a great rock voice, full of tremulous power and clever intonations, and his partner, rhythm guitarist Bryan Bremer, has supreme songwriting nous. Bristling with ballsy, hooky, mega-melodic, radio-friendly songs, Comin’… is nigh on irresistible. From After All (dig that Rosalie-style riff) to Hey! (like Loverboy on steroids) this is superior stuff from start to finish. If you’re pissed off at the way Bon Jovi have metamorphosed into conceited stadium rock buffoons, Boxkar could be your salvation. 8/10 Geoff Barton
