In the late summer of 2002 Matt Simpkins and Chandler Carriker were asked by a local congregation to come and play a few camp songs. Despite the fact that the event was called "Not Your Mother's Worship" and Matt and Chandler love their mothers very much, they still agreed to play. Painfully aware that two guys and two guitars was not very interesting they decided to ask Philadelphia Eagles fan and percussionist extraordinaire Jill Van Horne (also of Second Story) to come along for the ride. The event was a success and "BOYWONDER" was born (although they went through several embarrassing names prior to, with the help of a Huddle House waitress in Asheboro, NC, reaching “boywonder”). Over the next few years boywonder toured the southeast playing youth events, congregations and camps. Their shows became legendary amongst young Lutherans of the southeast for a little bit of laughter, some well-orchestrated singing/clapping, Cheerwine, and a Krispy Kreme donut or two. Along the way their sound expanded to experiment and push the boundaries of what two guitars, a drum, and Cross-centered lyrics can sound like. After writing more songs then Chandler could remember the chords for they released their first live CD, LIVE AT LAKESIDE. That was followed up with more new songs and another live CD, LIVE AT TAMPA, recorded, mixed, and sold on the spot at the Show Me The Way event in Tampa, FL. Now boywonder has finished their latest album (and first “studio album”) the long talked about “NO SPITTIN' IN CHURCH” project. And now this spring, after several pre-release pressings, boywonder is now set to release "NO SPITTIN' IN CHURCH", remastered, with all new artwork, and two new tracks. Featuring songs that have long been concert favorites, like “Something Different” and “Make Me A Disciple”, along side songs never heard live, like “Get Wrapped Up” and album closer “Goodnight”, and completely reworked versions of songs, (like the striking “Undying Love”), boywonder’s new album is a major step forward in their call to make fun, faithful, and creative music together.
