Album Notes

Bozorius, one of the Italy’s foremost bass players.
He is also a highly regarded composer, producer and sound engineer. After many years of experience playing and recording with his bands, and as a studio musician and sideman, he now presents his first solo cd. This cd is not overly technical, nor full of the usual scales and solos, but is made up of original compositions that mark his personal influences and tastes.
Outstandingly played, these original songs vary from contemporary jazz instrumentals to vocal latin jazz.
The music is performed with a unique warmth and feeling by some of Italy's best known musicians.

author: Ana Isabel Ordonez
Bassist Maurizio Bozzi is well known as Bozorius and has released his first CD Bozorius for the joy of his multiple amusements around the world. Bozzi is a leading figure among bass players in Italy. He has been on the scene for years as an accomplished arranger, composer and consummated sideman with such great artists as Ramazzotti, Zucchero, Gerry Mulligan, Enrico Rava, Enrico Granafei, and Chet Baker, to just mention a few. Bozorius has been playing and touring all around Europe, Canada and America since the seventies. He has superb technique, an amazing groove and his compositions are very appealing to all kinds of audiences. In 2004 Bozzi created his own recording label, Drycastle Records and has also written method books about bass-playing. Bozorius is an album in which many of the styles and languages of jazz are visited and reviewed. “Alex Shuffle”, “The Fat Cat and the Fiddle”, “Precious Love”, “HiJoe”, “Very Nice” and “Bass Brothers” are Bozzi compositions. Every one of these tunes has a print totally different from each other, yet they are all rooted in jazz. A medium pace drives "Alex Shuffle", the first track, recalling Pastorius-like influence on Buzzi’s music. "The Fat Cat and the Fiddle" boasts a Brazilian rhythm texture, enriched with a fluent piano and languorous trumpet with Lene Ribeau on vocals. Remarkable is the word for the duet of Bozzi and Laura Falcinelli on the blues "My Precious Love". Saxophonist Daniele Malvisi brightens with a wonderful solo. "HiJoe" is a eulogy to Joe Henderson and the input of stylistic elements on Pezzola’s piano is highly noticeable. The samba-like "Very Nice" is almost a romantic piece with Martinelli delivering some thick inspiring tones from his guitar. "Bass Brothers", the last track of the album, mixes up jazz-rap and fusion. Crosby’s "Tampalais High" and Sting’s "Brand New Day" musters a great Buzzi arrangement filled with Bill Testa’s piano, being sharp-edged with tuneful moments. Andrea Donnini’s flugelhorn highlights this Crosby composition. Bozorius is Bozzi’s first attempt with his own record label and is definitely worth checking out.

Great record and warm voices! A fantastic and mighty BASS BROTHERS which reminds me Jestofunk, a brilliant Italian collective which successfully combines jazz and electro into vibrant tunes. The smooth TAMALPAIS HIGH is also an excellent tune which mellows you perfectly!
