Album Notes

The Prowl is Ben Patterson's first release as a leader. With this recording, we get a look, not only at Patterson's trombone prowess, but his composing and arranging talents also. Six of the nine tunes presented here are Ben Patterson originals, and saxophonist Jeff Antoniuk makes a musical offering with his beautiful "Mother's Day." Rounding out the session are two standards: a sextet arrangement of Patterson's reharmonization of the lovely ballad "If Ever I Would Leave You," and a fast-burning, take-no-prisoners quartet version of "Cherokee."

The ensemble is comprised of some of the Washington, D.C. area's top musicians, several coming from the USAF Airmen of Note and the Army Blues.

Ben Patterson Rocks!
author: Bob Donahue
Ben Patterson's Cd is AWESOME! I had heard him play with the University of North Texas State and knew that he was going to do great things. Overall the CD is great, but, check out Cherokee if you want to hear some bad-ass trombone playing. He flys through the changes so fast you would think he was playing a valve-trombone.
