Whip out your hyphens and call Cathy Braaten a rootsy-alternative pop-rocker, who hails from Chicago, a wailer with a voice that celebrates the traditions she wears on her sleeve with lyrics like "i found a hole in the atmosphere/where the crazy people go/when they get sick and tired of everything around here/got an appetite for shelter/but no place looks like home."
A songwriter with 7 national awards, a producer and a musician, Cathy has recorded 3 cd's and her song "Cellophane Mind" was featured in the indie movie - Influence. She tours the college circuit/festivals/clubs/Ireland and a wide variety of venues including Chicago's Museum of Contemporary Art, Soldier Field and the 100th Olypiad in Atlanta.

"this seductive pop has vocal character, moody guitar and harmonies that wouldn't sound out of place on Sheryl Crow's blockbuster debut lp."...Homepride Productions
"a vocal range as powerful as Sara McLaughlin and the blues rock mentality of Sass Jordan"..Stylus Magazine, Winnepeg, Canada
"an unbelievable in-store performance" She played a 45 minute powerhouse set to an audience who were defintely blown away by her showmanship."...Kevin Gross, Best Buy manager
"an extremely talented female singer/songwriter who may join the likes of Chrissie Hynde and Michelle Schocked if she gets the attention she deserves." Craig Vanderah, Cake Magazine

The Real Deal
author: Jenny BruceAs a touring musician I hear a lot of music. It is so very rare that I hear anything or anyone this great! While passing through Chicago I heard Cathy Braaten at Uncommon Ground. I was floored by her voice, songs, and rock-star allure. She was amazing! I had another month of touring ahead of me and fortunately I had Cathy's CD "All In My Head" to listen to. This is a beautiful album that takes you on a journey. Cathy is the real deal. Great songs, great voice, great person!
This CD is a dreamcatcher of musical / lyrical ideas.
author: Myke P. GolbenALL IN MY HEAD will haunt you, long after you hear it. It will be in your head when you go to sleep, and be there again when you are waking. HEAD has all of the elements that make this a must have CD in your music repetoire,i.e. first rate songs that have hooking power, polished performers, a pro producer/arranger, and Cathy Braaten's sassy, vulnerable, hip smart, moody, underlining sexuality in her vocal delivery. Look for the surprise instrumental track at the end. There are no filler songs in this CD.
