Honest as Dylan...raw as Yong.
author: Bryan Hayes
Braden's debut album, Dirt, is nothing short of amazing. Its honest to the point of painful. Its raw to the point of being there. And its injected with such emotion that its truly unique.
Land is as good a lyricist as I've come across. He paints a picture that continues to grow each time you listen to a song. And somehow he does this while beautifully weaving these lyrics through a sonic landscape that is reminiscent of early Neil Young.
The album is a perfect mixture of acoustic ballads and full-band productions. Personal favorites include I'm Afraid and Willie, both bring to mind one Mr. Townes Van Zandt, and the haunting tune Methane Moonshine. But heck, there'll all great, so buy this record and decide for yourself!
I can't say enough about this guy. Dirt is a must have for any music collection.

Yeah, he's really that good...

Gosh, the instructions here say to talk about this CD and this CD only. But I can't really discuss it without mentioning what a great live performer Braden is, both solo acoustic and with a full band. And Dirt represents Braden's live sound really well...it focuses on the songs (Evangeline Tonight and So Cold About It really stand out to me), but it also showcases some really fine instrumental playing by Braden and his fellow players, as well as Braden's expressive singing. I'm really digging this CD.
