Album Notes

In this set, the Brad Williams Five explores the plate tectonics of musical sound: The idea that ultimate energy arises from the scraping turmoil of large, opposing movements as they grind past one another. The result is volcanic.

Attempts to wed the searching, spiritual intellect of jazz with the earnest swagger of rock are nothing new; such projects have been around for the last forty years. Where this set differs is that it is not an attempt, but rather a natural outgrowth of an unbiased view of sound. What unites the disparate elements that inform this music is not a mere superficial juxtaposition of aesthetic qualities, but rather a deep understanding that all music spills from a common wellspring, and in the fourth dimension it is all part of a single line, anyway.
