Alan Brain is a singer/songwriter currently living in Vancouver, Canada. He was born in Glasgow, Scotland, attended art school in England and has been living and working in Canada since 1985.
While living in Bath, England, Alan was a founding member of Interview, a 5-piece band that was signed to a 5-album contract by Virgin Records, London. Over the course of their 4 year existence Interview produced 2 albums and 4 singles before self-destructing in the 1980's.
The band was comprised of Alan Brain, Jeff Starrs, Pete Allerhand, Manny Elias – later of Tears for Fears – and Alfie Agius, formerly of Teardrop Explodes and the Fixx. Interview toured extensively in the UK and Europe with the Pretenders, Peter Gabriel, Martha and the Muffins, and the Tourists – later to become Eurythmics.
Interview still has a cult following, mainly in the US where they had extensive radio airplay in the early ‘80s, and can be found on-line at www.interviewtheband.com.
Alan Brain’s new music can best be described as pop for grown-ups and has influences ranging from Jim Webb, the Blue Nile, Burt Bacharach, Al Green, Elvis Costello, Morrissey, Pet Shop Boys, Motown, Stax and, of course, the Beatles.
These 9 new songs were produced and engineered by Peter Kilgour of Beat Productions in Chilliwack BC. It’s no coincidence that Pete, when living in England, produced the original demo that landed Interview the deal with Virgin. He also helped out on keyboards and guitar and it really couldn’t have happened without him.
Alan plays guitar and sings – occasionally at the same time – and is planning to take these new songs and attempt to play them live. Should be interesting.
