TAPEWYRM PRESENTS THE SURFGOTH SOUND,
LESBIAN VAMPYRES VIDEO
& BRIAN JAMES PRODUCTION
DELETED AND NO LONGER AVAILABLE
LONDON - Tapewyrm Records is pleased to present The Legend of Ladybeard, the new Brand Violet (www.brandviolet.com) EP.
The Legend of Ladybeard features three new tracks including Rail Thin, produced by Brian James (The Damned, Lords of the New Church, Iggy Pop) as well as Brand Violet's new video (Sororicide) from award-winning director Anthony Carpendale.
Much deliberation and discussions with several leading UK music editors and journalists from the underground fanzines to Music Week has resulted in as definitive a classification of the hard to peg Brand Violet sound as you can find: Surfgoth.
How many more ways can you say Blondie meets the Pixies? LOGO Magazine says "Irresistibly seductive... like rummaging through Joe Meek's cupboard looking for the holy grail of unmistakable sounds... looking forward to seeing the look of confusion on the face of the tragically hip loser that has to present this lot to the nation when they make it, for make it they surely will...'
The EP features the debut of the Lesbian Vampire mini-epic 'Sororicide', starring Brand Violet and several lovely ladies from Suicide Girls (www.suicidegirls.com).
Released 27 September alongside The Henderson Shatners' (bassist's solo project) Henderson (WYRM03) and Thumpermonkey's (guitarist Igor's solo project) Pigheart (WYRM04) the trio of releases should offer something for even the most hardened swinger.
Welcome to the world of Tapewyrm.

full guitars, pounding drums, butter-wouldn’t-melt vocals and the quirky sounds
author: CHRIS CORRIGANThe first thing that is striking about ‘The Legend of Ladybeard’, is the name, which is far from a commonly used title. The second thing is the content – one music video for ‘Sororicide, one video documentary and two audio songs. The first client on the CD is a quite X rated blood fest, following a group of female urban vampires killing their snacks and leaving in their wake an obvious trail of destruction. In the end the singer is a vampire too and kills the band. Next, Brand Violet present an apparently pointless but non the less interesting piece of film outlining the bands recording session, trip to an arcade, playing with soft toys and saying things they may come to regret if they do become the next big thing to inspire kids. Then comes the song for Sororicide (this time without the bloody thirsty video) which is a good pop song with Brand Violets stamp all over it – full guitars, pounding drums, butter-wouldn’t-melt vocals and the quirky sounds and production techniques that give the band their niche. ‘Rail thin’ starts with the Halloween piano string plucking idea that was conceived on film, and jumps into thumping rock which was also being filmed. Quite a rocky song which Brand Violet pull off with the usual level of competence that we have come to expect from them. So the idea of this audio/visual promo CD may seem a little pointless, but it does, in it’s self, continue the bands originality from the music through to the presentation like a breath of fresh air.
