CIRCUS LIFE

Hey Brant,
I’ve been enjoying your “Circus Life” Cd for the past week ... You are a gifted writer who shares your lessons and stories in a personal and honest way – very thought provoking. Two of my favorite lines are: “What will it take for me to see what I already know?” and “it’s hard to swallow mercy, when the truth is carved in a tree”.
You sing with an anointing and passion ... God has given you a fabulous voice and must be smiling at how you are using it to worship Him and draw others to do the same. Looking forward to hearing more.

It's fairly ludicrous that one person should be allowed to have so may good song

We first encountered Brant a few months ago when a copy of his single "Cursed" came our way. At the time we said that "what lifts Brant from the ranks of wannabee folk singer songwriters looking for that movie soundtrack placement is the song. There's a hint of grittiness at the edges of the voice, the performance is superlative, and you can feel the conviction in what he's singing."
And now there's a full album for us to ruminate over. Now I'm not going to get all hippy on your ass, but I was going through a fairly down spell when I first played this. And it did what beautiful music should do - lifted the spirits. A remarkable gift, and one that should be cherished. It's fairly ludicrous that on eperson should be allowed to have so may good songs in their repertoire, but as I have the CD for repeat play, I won't be complaining.
The first one to claim me was "What Will It Take?", a mid tempo, smoothly melodic lilting number that just eases into you, closely followed by "8oz Cup", a parable of problems that most people can relate to, deceptively tied to an upbeat tempo. But there is not one single song here that I don't think is fabulous. There's a flavour for every mood and every moment, and whether you share Brants spiritual beliefs or not, we can all feel an affinity with the human condition that he explores through his songwriting.
He's going to be in the UK between August 25th and 31st, including a return visit to Greenbelt, so get a copy of this, and prepare yourself for something very special.

Anybody who enjoys well-crafted acoustic music will take to him!

The first thing that popped into my head upon hearing the first few bars of a Brant Christopher song was “JOHN MAYER.” The acoustic guitar swimming along with Brant’s breathy, comfortably worn voice and some pop programming reminded me of listening to Mayer’s “Heavier Things” for the first time...
Brant Christopher reminds one strongly of popular acoustic artists such as John Mayer and Ben Fold’s Five. But he isn’t jazz or folk, he’s much more pop, and a bit contemporary. I attribute the pop sound less to his songwriting or style than to the production of the album...Thus, my personal favorite of all his songs was an acoustic recording of “Infected”. It was a treat to hear just Brant and his guitar, stripped of all the production add-ins. Without the distractions, you could really enjoy Brant’s voice, which he uses very well, and his guitar talent. I would love to hear more material like this!
Another song that impressed me was the title track from “Circus Life”. The lyrics to this song are brilliant.
“Tightrope walking with no net, unforgivable sin down below
Fear and faith keep me in balance, but what happens after the show?
When the tent comes down its just you and I
All is stripped away nowhere to hide
Restore my faith, destroy my pride
Lead me out of the Circus Life.”
“Circus Life” and “Eight Ounce Cup”, another song on the album, showcase Brant’s sharp lyricism. He possesses that which makes a good songwriter – the ability to write clever lyrics that elegantly express a universal topic, without clichés or mixed metaphors.
Brant Christopher is a gifted and enjoyable artist who stays true to his Christian background, but also transcends it. Anybody who enjoys uplifting, well-crafted acoustic music will take to him immediately!
