Album Notes

Brenda Wong Aoki has broken barriers and established a new artistic genre as a contemporary American storyteller. Her work is a synthesis of Japanese Noh and Kyogen theater, Commedia dell’arte, modern dance and every day experience. A writer and performer, she is acclaimed as one of America’s foremost solo theater performers.

The Queen's Garden is an epic story with jazz about the love between a good girl who’s all “chop suey” (Chinese, Japanese, Spanish and Scots) and a Hawaiian prince born too late in the wrong country.

REVIEWS

author: Chelsie-Jean Fernandez
Brenda Wong Aoki’s work is absolutely inspirational. This story embodies pure love, hate, death, and hope. Her story is relevant to Hawaii’s culture, past and present. Its relevancy to my life, for I am a Kauai local, fascinated me insurmountably. Many aspects of her story told of my life as well. Brenda Wong Aoki is truly gifted and The Queen’s Garden shows her artistic flawlessness.
