Album Notes

In just months, Sara Brenner and her band have established themselves as a musical force throughout Manhattan and Long Island hotspots.

Sara grew up on the Island, and her family quickly discovered her natural inclination to music. She was playing her first cover tune, "Call Me" by Blondie, at the age of four. By seven, with just a year of piano lessons under her belt, she had already developed a vast repertoire of tunes, and started writing her own. Sara had a chronic case of shyness, however, and very few people were aware of her musical abilities. She picked up the bass guitar, and played in a number of bands in high school and college as a bass player, in the background, where she was most comfortable. All the while, Sara was writing and playing her own unique songs...shared only with family and close friends.

Her piano playing developed into a style reminiscent of another Long Islander, Billy Joel. However, her lyrical and vocal sensibility is clearly her own, and has drawn comparisons to songwriters like Sheryl Crow and Tracy Chapman. Backed by a three piece band made up of area club and studio veterans, Sara's set covers a diverse range of material, from the bittersweet "For Now" to the powerfully poignant "Worthy" to the house-rocking "Curious."

With a backup band in place, Sara quickly became a local regular, developing a loyal and fanatical following who have packed Manhattan's Bitter End and Baggot Inn. With the long-anticipated release of her independent debut CD, Unsteady Ground, Sara is looking to hit the road and continue building a fan base outside of New York.

"Pure brilliance"
author: Michael Allison
Sara Brenner is one of those singer/songwriters who has the ability to take something as simple as a song, and transform it into a thing of beauty. This amazing vocalist pulls no punches with her eloquent and passionate allure. The songs on this album are so real and packed with feeling. Most of my readers know that for a song to get any praise at all, it must first make me feel something. Sara has that ability and does it with damn near every song. The purity and raw emotion of the lyrics on this album is at times, pure brilliance. The more I heard the album, the more I liked it. It's inspirational value alone is enough to make me want to hear it over and over. It just goes to show that at the end of the day, it all comes down to the quality of the music. Sara Brenner definitely has that end lock up. - Michael Allison - THEGLOBALMUSE.COM Song Pick: Boston - (I just fell in love with this song.)

Sara is a unique talent and a kick-ass live performer!
author: Rachael Sage
I discovered Sara at the EAT'M conference in Vegas this year, and have been a fan since. I just got a copy of her studio album as well as her more recent home-recording (only available at her live shows), and what I am most impressed by are her timeless, emotionally vulnerable and courageous love-songs. With her lyrical honesty, steller musicianship and strength of soul, I think she has the potential to become an artist with absolutely universal appeal - and I look forward to hearing everything she does! Everyone in the Metro-area should really try to check her out live...her voice and piano playing are exceptional and that's where her spirit comes across best. Seeya at Rubyfruit in August, Sara... xoxo & respect, Rachael :)
