Americana, folk, roots, blues, if that means fishing for bullheads in muddy creeks, sling shots made from bicycle inner tubes, learning to sharpen pocket knives on old worn down whet stones, and a harmonica in the pocket of your tough skins.

notes

The songs on Hidden Constellation are a journey through folk, roots, blues, and Americana--if that means fishing for bullheads in muddy creeks, sling shots made from bicycle inner tubes, learning to sharpen pocket knives on old worn down whet stones, and a harmonica in the pocket of your tough skins. Bret Boyer grew up in the Midwest with the folk music of his grandfather ringing in his ears. His recordings have received extensive airplay on public radio stations throughout the Midwest. He has been an active performer and teacher for the past 18 years, and has been selected as a member of the Texas and Kansas Touring Artist Rosters. He regularly performs throughout the country at festivals, colleges, concert series, and listening rooms. For more information, visit www.bretboyer.com

  • Easy on the head, but interesting to the brain.

I have owned this CD for over a year now and return to it again and again. I like to listen to it on a Saturday or Sunday morning after a little too much partying. Easy on the head, but interesting to the brain. I would classify it as Bluesy Americana Singer Songwriter music (BASS ??). I liked it well enough to give it as a gift to a couple of friends for Christmass. Buy it, enjoy it.

  • Perfect Americana...

Hooks you from the opening track....a solid piece of contemporary Bluegrass/Americana - moody, soulful, upbeat, bluesy, gritty vocals and twanging guitar; I bought it for the 5- hour drive from Nashville to Cincinnati, and it helped eat up the road!! And a friend who had a record contract 'back in the day' loved it, too...

  • Terrific!!

Hidden Constellation is a great Blues/Americana CD. The original tracks, I Will Love You and Climbing the Stairs are very moving. My husband compared Bret's guitar playing to Mark Knopfler and my law partner compared his singing style to Tom Waits. Not a bad combo. It is a wonderful CD. I will be turning a lot of friends on to it.

  • Hidden Constellation sets the tone for what good music should be!!

5{CD delves into the roots of our great American music and takes guitar playing to new levels and directions that inspire and vocals/lyrics that give insight into the heart of a man with deep feelings for life, American pride, God, and family.

  • Thumbs up!

  • Sweet , gets to the heart of americana soul.

There are songwriter/performers who interpret music well, but just a few that are the source of americana soul ... Brett Boyer is one of these few.

When music bypasses the analytical mind, the comparisons and the contexts we tend to use as netting for understanding our world- when it goes straight to the bone, tingles the flesh and lights that fire in your gut before the mind can figure out what just happened- that, my friends, is as magical, as beautiful, as pure as music gets. Bret Boyer did that for me from the first track and right on through the entire album. I just sat back in my chair, goosebumps taking over, with eyes closed and only sensations moving through my brain. Using the same emotional language as Tom Waits and Greg Brown, he cradles a perfection of folk blues, roots, Americana and country in his voice and hands. But let me say it again- words aren't even in the same ballpark of consciousness as the experience you get from this album. If I could show you in colors, I would. But now, you just need to click on that little button and wrap yourself up in this simmering album.
