In their rare performances on stage, they have appeared in disguise more often than not. Their publicity photos have been obscure. Their music is often dark and and brooding. Brethren and the Evil Empire walks in the shadows, shuns the spotlight, and prefers anonymity.

The band's self-titled debut is a dark and haunting concept album that deals with the inhumanity of man and the evil ways of a twisted spirit. The music is all original, alternative rock with ample offerings of psychedelic, rock, pop, punk, metal, goth and horror. The mood of the album is set with the psychedelic "key" tracks of LONELINESS, SPITE, MADNESS, and ETERNITY leading the way to hard rock on CELEBITCH, MADMAN, UNSPOKEN, and RITA CONCHITA; pop punk on ADMIRAL SHRIDE and HAPPY OLIVER; metal on METAMORPHIC, LIFE ON DEATH ROW. WHORE; and the rock ballad CRASHLANDED. Brethren and the Evil Empire's dark edgy lyrics and creative mix of sound and rhythm offer a sonic experience that is uniquely stimulating and provocative.
