Album Notes

Brett Bixby is an independent songwriter out of Long Beach,
California. His debut 10 song effort, 'City Lights', is an honest record you can listen through. Bixby is known for turning a phrase in simple but unexpected ways. Insights like "the holes among the truth are like the stars along the sky, they're easier to see without the city lights" and "your listening tree, is losing its leaves" appear straightforward, but when taken with the lushly spare musical backdrop they feel more like the large roots you can see just above the surface. The strong record features the production of Chris Karn (mastermind of Deccatree), the wide-ranging talents of a cross section of cream-of-the-crop local luminaries. The resulting musical pieces are like audio polaroids colored with the subtle touches of an inspired cast. From the string-laden latticework of Fireside to the dream-stitched intimacy of Spilling, 'City Lights' hits an easy stride and the music is a reflection of an ability to stretch into newfound spaces. CITY LIGHTS is now available here at cdbaby.com and on iTunes.

In recent months Brett has been playing select dates in southern california (Hotel Cafe/Temple Bar - L.A., Lestat's - San Diego) while off tour with his other project, as keyboard player in Rocco Deluca & The Burden (Ironworks). The band is finishing their second album on the Ironworks label and is looking toward big things upon the albums release in 2008. After successful opening runs with Keane and John Mayer in '07 in support of 'I Trust You To Kill Me' and a headlining tour across the states in the summer, the band is ready to drop a much anticipated sophomore effort with a tour to follow. With the inspired touches of producer extrordinaire Daniel Lanois, the album is sure to turn ears and attract new fans.

2008 will likely see Brett Bixby rise in the realm of stellar independent music. City Lights is a listen for yourself proposition, one of those records that is likely to become familiar to your stereo. Your support is an essential source of fuel. Thanks for supporting independent music.

Brett Bixby's CD City Lights is beautiful, mellow, upbeat and my favorite way of describing it to my friends is enlightening. I always have his CD in my car to play after a hard day at work or sometimes just to listen to while we are on our way out for a night out on the town. My favorite songs are Memento and Lift. Although all his songs have an excellent vibrational energy level these two for me are exceptional. Listen buy it and you will see what I mean. We will be hearing alot from this man.

Usually I have to listen to a cd a few times before I become attached. Not the case with this one. I instantly fell in love with the intensity and passion evoked within each passage. My favorites are track 2 umbrella, track 8 elsewhere life, and track 9 hindsight. There is an underlying sadness with each song that makes you feel twinges of angst. Because of this, it is the crack of all cds. You know it's bad for you, but you leave wanting more.
