Album Notes

In Retrospect represents a look back at my last 32 years from the perspectives of composition, performance and education.
This recording consists of twelve compositions selected from my writing during this period. All selections were originally conceived for big band and have been adapted for the trombone-featured 9-piece group heard on this recording.
My performance during this time has encompassed a variety of genres from shows and big band to combo and improvisation in both contemporary and traditional jazz settings. A little of everything is touched by this project.
All the performers (with the exception of Jim Martin) are former students who completed degrees at SIUE and established successful music careers of their own. Rick, Reggie, Miles, Zeb and Jim Martin are faculty at SIUE. Dave is Associate Director of Jazz Studies at the University of Northern Colorado. Jim Owens and Cody Henry are freelance musicians in St. Louis.
