The Australian landscape is characterised by striking diversity. Sloping mountain ranges meet with vast expanses of endless, flat desert plains. Burnt reds of desert sands contrast with lush greens of tropical rain forests and muted tones of the bush. Australia's cultural landscape is just as diverse. People from every corner of the globe populate its cities and towns. This young nation of vibrant, progressive thinkers is also an ancient and spiritual land whose Indigenous people practice some of the oldest traditions in the world.
The music being made in Australia today represents a great deal of this diversity. Contemporary composers ofter draw inspiration from the wild and fascinating natural terrain, as well as stories and imagery from Indigenous Australian cultures. The structures of Western classical music are ofter imbued with Modern harmonies and melodies more typical of popular song.
THE BREW GUITAR DUO
Laudered as 'a significant addition to the guitar landscape in Australia,' the Brew Guitar Duo prides itself on featuring an intoxicating blend of new Australian music and popular classics in its programs. Based in Canberra, Matthew Withers and Bradley Kunda also comprise one half of Australia's leading guitar quartet, Guitar Trek, which for over two decades has pioneered new repertoire for the guitar family under the leadership of the duo's mentor, Professor Timothy Kain.
The duo has performed widely throughout Australia, giving concerts in Canberra, Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, Adelaide and Darwin. In 2009 they gave a concert as part of ABC Classic FM's Sunday Live series from Llewellyn Hall. They are frequently heard on ABC Classic FM's Breakfast and Drive programs and have been featured on ABC Radio's Australia All Over program.
