Album Notes

Phoenix, Arizona based artist Brian Chartrand has been busy! This prolific singer/songwriter released four albums in 2008: his first solo-acoustic effort, "Sleeping With Giants," “the Show Low sessions” by his rootsy trio Ten Dollar Outfit, “Laurel & Sunset” by The Sweet Remains, the trans-continental, harmony-driven collaboration between Brian, Rich Price, and Greg Naughton, and lastly, “Out Of The Ether,” his latest solo EP.

“Out Of The Ether” was recorded in August 2008 in Queen Creek, AZ with producer Mr. Fantastical. This EP continues the experimental trajectory started with “Sleeping With Giants” by exploring new genres and new instrumentations. “Falling Away” pulses with a thick bass line, swirling strings, and hook-heavy outtro. “How Thin These Walls” is bluesy, stripped down, and raw; a sexy tune about a promiscuous neighbor. “Coffin Man” somehow juxtaposes 80’s pop soul and dirty, bluesy vocals and sprinkles in some chain gang chanting for texture (picture Billy Ocean and Warren G lost in the desert). “4 Seasons” is a light acoustic ballad celebrating the seasons. This song was inspired by the birds that constantly sing outside Brian’s Phoenix apartment. “The Long Way Home” takes us into the home of a dysfunctional family with a hard working father, detached mother, and their naïvely pious children. This song pushes the listener lyrically as well as sonically by playing with time signatures, chord progressions, and eastern influenced instrumentation.

This is a very limited physical release of this studio EP. Each disc was designed, assembled and signed by the artist himself. Supplies are very limited.
