Debut album from Brian Finke featuring melencholy tunes with undercurrents of love, social behavior, and political turmoil. This album is a mellow, late night quite listen. Because the album was recorded on analog tape the instrumentation is rich. Cello and piano make this a tender heartfelt album.

Painting a sparse, desolate soundscape of country noir, murder ballads and destitute emptiness, Brian Finke casts a spell with every brush stroke. Even more compelling is his ability to shade the depravity with a hue of elegance, beauty and delicate harmony. While the songs may hover in the shadows, telling of tragedy and struggle, the smoky, hazy layer of softness superimposed on top is like a bitter pill of truth coated in vanilla- but in the kind of way where the sheer contrast and lack of alignment between the two realities casts a faint wonder of its own, much like those times when you can detect the preciousness of discordance. "Stationhill EP" is a must-hear for the Nick Drake fan but will find a home in any heart keen on dark country folk.
