Any Time At All
author: Roland Goodbody
Like many, I grew up in England with Beatles music as my soundtrack. Theirs was the first music I bought and for a while all that I bought. So I hold their songs very dear and I don't usually like other people's versions of their music (although I do like the Cirque de Soleil album "Love" and also "Rubber Folk," folk versions of the songs from "Rubber Soul" that came out a couple of years ago). But I really love this album! One of the pleasurable surprises is that the arrangements aren't obvious; there are a number tunes that are hard to recognize the first or second times through as being Beatles songs. And many that ARE recognizable that are also inventive. I've tried the album out on a number of different friends and it receives universal acclaim. It's one of those things that seems an obvious thing to do, yet the result is so refreshing. I agree with Rich Grady's comment that it's like hearing the tunes again for the first time. An utter delight.
