Album Notes

Brian Larsen plays music that he describes as “indie pop-rock with a hint of folk,” but lest one get the wrong idea, there is nothing sedate or staid about Larsen’s style. Rather, his music is a rich tapestry of intelligent lyrics, strong vocals, smooth harmonies, and lush instrumentation.

Larsen’s debut solo album BREAKING showcases the Baltimore, Maryland based artist in his most diverse and ambitious role yet: as the album’s sole songwriter, performer, and producer. Each of BREAKING’s thirteen tracks draw inspiration from Larsen’s diverse group of influences, which ranges from classic rock artists like Fleetwood Mac and Lou Reed, to modern indie acts like Pinback and Okkervil River. Noted reviewer Stephen Thomas Erlewine remarks that the album “assimilates Larsen’s influences and refines his melodic gifts.” Indeed, with warm vocals and a unique finger-picking guitar style, Brian’s melodic gifts are immediately apparent.

Already a veteran of the music industry at the age of 23, Brian spent his adolescent years fronting the band Twilight’s Moon, whose nine album output serves as a representation of Larsen’s remarkable ambition and dedication. Brian has been successful behind the scenes, as well – at the age of 18, Larsen’s marketing and promotional work on The All-American Rejects’ debut album earned him three RIAA certified sales awards, including gold and platinum records and a gold DVD sales award.

Brian will begin touring in the fall of 2009 in support of Breaking, performing both solo acoustic and full band concerts in the United States and abroad. In addition, with national radio and press campaigns beginning in the summer and music videos scheduled in support of the singles “Stand My Ground” and “Frozen,” Larsen’s songs will be exposed to an ever-increasing group of listeners. With a new album and tour on the horizon, the future looks brighter than ever for Brian Larsen, the ambitious and dedicated artist who has spent the better part of his entire life involved in the music industry.
