Album Notes

CD Review of "reach" from "Alive and Kicking" - Sacramento, CA May 2001

Former Jackpot drummer Dave Brockman recorded Reach in the same remote cabin as Jackpot's last two albums, and it proves that the musical ease with which Jackpot wears different hats was no fluke. But here Brockman leaves the country-rock-disco to his former band and instead seeps himself in the sounds of a.m. pop. Sweet harmonies and mature arrangements are backed by a seamless mixture of musical influences ranging from Al Stewart to the Rolling Stones to the atmospheric touches of U2. A kind of sad romanticism pervades the lyrics and is only heightened by Brockman's smooth tenor. Puntuated by snare drums, layered vocals and the occasional sideways lyric, Reach is a surprising, smart and sweet debut from one of the area's best drummers, cum best songwriters
