Album Notes

Brokentop has been described as pure Acoustic Inspiration, taking their unique blend of traditional music, bluegrass, folk and original music to new and dazzling heights. The self-titled album has fourteen cuts, each of which will take you on its own journey down the byways of the American experience. Comprised mostly of band member originals, it is seamlessly blended together with diverse covers by songwriters Kieran Kane, Anais Mitchell, and Jonathan Byrd. Here is what others say about Brokentop:

Brokentop, with its precise instrumentation and elegant harmonies, takes music both original and traditional, to a whole new level. A truly professional, top notch band. Not to be missed!

"Just down home folks making damn good music"

I have heard most of the members of Brokentop individually or in other contexts, but when they joined forces in my hayloft concert series last summer, I was blown away by their combined artistry and musicality. A clear case of the total being more than the sum of its parts. That can't happen in math, but it can happen in music. The most fun for me, as the owner of the venue, is to see the reaction of the audience, which was all-out enthusiasm for this most entertaining of "bluegrass/Americana" groups. Kris Kokesh -of Misty River fame- carried the vocals with some beautiful backup harmonies by lead guitar Dale Adkins, all in an acoustic (no microphones) setting. At the end of the evening the first thing I did was "book" them for a return visit in 2012 (my first opening). I look forward to seeing and hearing them again.
