Broken Trail has been performing on the Northwest country music scene for over a decade. Based in Western Washington, they have spent many years building a solid fan-base by performing high energy shows in clubs, casinos, rodeos, fairs, and other events.
“What This Country Needs” is their first studio release and features all original songs written, arranged, and performed by the band. Co-produced with Rickie Ray Heinzman, the recording studio gave the band a chance to really test their musicianship, harmonies, and production skills. The end result showcases a band that has played together for many years.
Mark Medalen plays rhythm acoustic and electric guitars, sings lead and harmony vocals, and plays percussion.
Andy Vance plays lead guitar on a Fender Telecaster, sings lead and harmony vocals, and plays percussion.
Barry Bernier plays drums, percussion, keyboards, and sings high harmony vocals.
Mike Anderson plays bass guitar.
Tom Phelps plays pedal steel guitar.
While staying true to the roots of country music, Broken Trail puts their own signature sound and arrangements into every song they write and play. “What This Country Needs” is a strong original set featuring honky-tonk shuffles, ballads that are equal parts love-making and heartbreaking, and hardcore outlaw country attitude.

I am not generally a country music fan, but I thoroughly enjoy this album. I have it on my car CD and enjoy listing to it as I travel.
