Brooke Michael's voice has a way of sounding as if it's just floating around and happens to land on the right notes. In other words, natural and not over-rehearsed. The vocals alternate effortlessly between a breathy, almost ethereal quality and a rocker-chick intensity. The songs are beautifully written. As someone who's had some painful relationships with emotionally unavailable partners, I can relate. But my favorite song on the album, "Crooked," is not about relationships. The sentiment is similar to Christina Aguilera's "Beautiful," but it's actually done WELL. Its simplicity, specificity and nakedness make it one of those perfect songs that just stays with you. Every time I hear it, I cry!
