Brother Iota is a space rock/jam band based in Kansas City, Missouri. Three of our members are involved in computer technology and one is a music instructor. Like so many others, we started playing in a garage and then decided to take the music out into the world. We have such varied influences it would take a catalog to include them. Mostly, we just love playing music. Our music is purely improvisational. It is all instrumental--we have no vocalist. We don't work from any charts and often start by asking a member to lead off. Sometimes the results are really surprising and beautiful. We have also included poems as a way to create a mood or atmosphere and sometimes as spoken word intertwined with the music. You might say our motto is "free the music" and it's amazing how many people have been happy to join us in our cause. We want to keep it interesting and open.
