"This time out, Greg Brown turns his compassionate heart and sharp eye to the subject of love and romance for another sultry masterpiece. His rumbling baritone is as comforting as a country fireplace on a chilly winters' night, as he strings together semi-concious insight and plainspoken poetry to produce a trancy meditation on the many ways love can go right and wrong. "Rexroth's' Daughter" , an epic of lost love and alienation filled with Brown's exceptional wordplay, slides along on a gritty country groove. "Lullaby" describes the childlike wonder at the heart of a long term relationship with a few well placed chords and subtle melody, while "Walkin' Daddy" uses a bouncy blues shuffle to pay tribute to the singer's father for the love and responsibility he passed down to his offspring.
