Writing began for "Mr. Lincoln" in 2007, shortly after "Big Bad World" and "Roadhouse Ranch and Saloon" were released. The title track was written that summer, toward the end of the Bush era, and has been a staple in Mr. Baker's Live sets since that time. It's the most overtly political track on the album, but in a way that seems approachable by all who hunger for real leadership.
This album runs an emotional roller coaster from Murder Ballads ("Pretty Polly", "Jackie") to the lighthearted "I Want to Be a Canadian" and "Let Go of the Monkey" to the pain of being on the verge of loosing a loved one ("105") and the desperation of isolation ("Say Anything").
